Cycle Charging Procedure For SmartWriter

Step 1:  Turn SmartWriter to the "OFF" position and disconnect charger. 

Step 2:  Remove the disk from the disk drive and replace with a formatted disk that does not have information you may want to retain.

Step 3:  While holding the "L" key in the down position, turn the writer on.  Once the writer is powered up, the display will show a fuel gauge indicating the voltage of the batteries.  Now release the "L" key.  

Step 4:  Leave the writer powered on until the writer powers itself off (this can take up to 10 hours).  You will also notice that the disk drive is running.  This is normal.

Step 5:  After writer has turned itself off, remove disk from writer and plug charger into writer for 12 to 16 hours (check to make sure the red charging indicator light is illuminating). 

The above outlined procedure is to lessen the memory effect inherent to Ni-Cad batteries and should be done once a month ( the procedure works better if done twice, back to back).
