How To Make A High Density Disk Work As A Double Density Disk

Parts Listed in Red Can be Located On Illustrations At Bottom Of Page

It is difficult to find double sided, double density disk, if not impossible.  With a minor modification you can easily change a  high density disk into a double density disk.

The picture below shows a high density disk and a double density disk. There is an additional hole on the high density disk marked "Extra Hole" (the extra hole tells your PC that the disk is a high density disk).  By covering the hole your PC is fooled into thinking that the disk is a double density disk).

Step 1:  Fold a piece of Scotch tape over the edge of the disk where the tape will cover the extra hole on both sides of the disk.

Step 2:  Now format the disk in your writer.  Your writer will format the disk as a double density disk (It is important to format the disk in your writer).

The disk should now work as a double density disk.
