Step 1:  Replace the ribbon cartridge.

Step 2:  If this does not work, turn blue knob located left of the ribbon cartridge (turning the blue knob causes the white gear below the ribbon cartridge to engage the ribbon cartridge).

Step 3:  Ribbon still not advancing?   Check to see if blue knob turns while you are depressing keys (the blue knob should turn a small amount in one direction only).  If blue knob is not turning, proceed to Step 6.

Step 4:  If blue knob is turning, try reseating ribbon cartridge by removing and reinserting.  Move ribbon cartridge left to right, back and forth.  This sometimes will cause ribbon to engage white gear below ribbon cartridge.

Step 5:  Check for black pad located inside of the top lid above ribbon cartridge.  If black pad is missing or not centered, it can cause ribbon cartridge not to sit in its cradle properly.

Step 6:  If blue knob is not turning, try cleaning the rubber wheel connected to blue knob with rubbing alcohol.  Be sure to remove all lubricant or oil from rubber wheel while turning rubber wheel with blue knob (any oil or lubricant on rubber wheel will cause ribbon not to turn).
