Step 1:  Check your paper notes against your raw electronic steno notes before translation (raw electronic steno notes are the notes stored to the disk on your writer).  If your notes are writing on top of each other on your paper notes and electronic notes in the same place, then you are experiencing a key adjustment problem.   Go to Contact Switch Adjustment Procedure by selecting Up on the left, then select Key Contact  Adjustment.

Step 2:  Did you fan your paper?   Dull blades during the manufacturing process of steno paper can cause stacking problems.  When the stacks of paper are being cut and the blades are dull, it folds the edge of the first sheet over the edge of the second sheet and the second over the third and so on.  Fanning the paper on both ends may resolve this problem.

Step 3:  Check the bail roller to make sure it turns freely in one direction.  If it does not, place a drop of oil on each side of the bail roller where it spins on the shaft.

Step 4:  Is the platen too slick or smooth?  If so, clean the platen with rubbing alcohol on a paper towel or you may want to roughen up the the platen with very fine sand paper.

Step 5:  Try using your writer without the the paper tray.  If this resolves the problem, then you may have an obstruction in the paper path or the stack of paper may be too high for the paper tray.  By not closing the upper tray fully or by removing 20 to 30 folds of paper from the stack may resolve the spacing problem.
