Will Not Power On (SmartWriter) Step 1: Plug charger into writer. Check to see if the red charge light is illuminating. If not, try another charger. If the charge light is still not illuminating, you may have a problem with the internal charging circuit. Call our technical support line (800.937.8228). If the charge light is illuminating, go to Step 2. Step 2: Turn writer upside down. Step 3: Remove battery cover by pressing down cover and sliding cover forward. Batteries should then be exposed. Step 4: Remove the Ni-Cad batteries and replace with 6 size C alkaline batteries such as Duracell or Energizer (Warning: Alkaline batteries are non-rechargeable batteries. Do not plug charger into writer while alkaline batteries are installed. It will cause damage to writer). Step 5: Replace battery cover. Step 6: Try powering up writer. If your writer powers up and the charge light was illuminating with the Ni-Cad batteries in Step 1, you need a new set of batteries. If writer does not power up with the alkaline batteries, call our technical support line (800.937.8228). You can order Ni-Cad batteries on our website or call our office. You should be able to run your writer on a new set of alkaline batteries between 8 and 12 hours before replacing batteries. If you decide to use your writer with alkaline batteries, we recommend having a second set of alkaline batteries with you in case you receive low battery indicator. You can then replace the batteries on your next break.
